Farm shops are perfect for discovering fresh and local produce. Just a few miles away, you’ll find Greenlands Farm Shop with its traditional butcher, artisan cheese counter and baked treats. Kendal has two farm shops to try (both with great cafés too): Plumgarths stocks locally-reared meats and exquisite chutneys, and Low Sizergh Barn showcases regional produce including home-grown vegetables, and, local ice cream and award-winning cheese made from their herd’s milk.
For those with a sweet tooth, Cartmel Village shop – home of the world-famous Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding – sells heavenly puddings, crumbles and sauces. And the Food Hall at Holker Hall stocks Fieldside Honey, Lakeland Mues Organic Muesli and an array of Kendal Mintcake.
The Hawkshead Brewery is a must-visit for lovers of bold, innovative beers and Keswick Brewery will also be sure to quench your thirst – with beers to take home that are full of distinctive style and flavour.
