Holiday Lodge Activities
Our log cabins to rent in the Lake District are the ideal destination for guests planning activity-filled South Lakeland holidays.
We’re positioned on the edge of three fantastic counties, which means we are only a short drive or train ride away from some of the best-loved walks, bike rides, visitor attractions and high-energy activities in Lancashire, Yorkshire and the Lake District.
We also have a very vibrant food and drink scene on our doorstep.
Food and drink
Putting together a hearty breakfast in one of our log cabins? Seeking tasty ingredients for a quick lunch or leisurely dinner? Or looking forward to someone else cooking? The finest food and drink in North Lancashire and South Lakeland is right on our doorstep, so you can do it all with ease.
Artisan producers, farm shops, speciality food shops and regular local markets are waiting to be explored. You’ll find that there’s a really strong connection between our food and its producers here – local ingredients are celebrated and you’re sure to be introduced to specialities such as Morecambe Bay potted shrimps, Cartmel sticky toffee pudding, beers from nearby breweries, and damsons from the Lyth Valley.
Of course the Lake District also boasts a huge choice of places to eat out – expect Michelin-starred restaurants, award-winning pubs, and plenty of busy cafés and bistros.
Adventures
Pine Lake and CN Watersports are right next door to our log cabins. They offer a wide selection of activities from banana boat rides and canoeing to water skiing and sailing. Carnforth-based Door 2 Door Adventures also offer exciting outdoor action across the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales to help make your holiday unforgettable.
Why not try your hand at clay shooting at Crabtree Farm or archery at Greenlands? Those with a head for heights will love treetop trekking at Brockhole in Windermere or the Via Ferrata at Honister. And there are plenty of adventures to be had on foot or two wheels.
Walking
This area is a haven for walkers. The Lake District is the latest site to be given World Heritage Site status and there’s a view for every day of the year and plenty of iconic mountains to hike. Coniston Old Man, Great Gable and the lower level Wainwright’s are among our favourites.
Lakeland Lodges is a superb base for walking. You can choose three different counties to explore and the terrain across them all proves interesting and varied. Try waterfalls and woodland one day and then hit the heady heights of Helvellyn the next. Walks suitable for all ages are on offer along the local canal and you’re sure to appreciate the wide range of pubs and eateries for post-walk refuelling.
Local Attractions
We are surrounded by local attractions. Whether you are interested in history, culture, art or family fun, we can recommend places for you to explore.
The lived-in stately home at Leighton Hall is just minutes away, while the historic houses of Lakeland artists, poets and writers are slightly farther afield. The art gallery at Abbot Hall in Kendal attracts prestigious visiting exhibitions, while the neighbouring Museum of Lakeland Life reveals fascinating stories about life in the area. Railway enthusiasts are certain to pay a visit to Carnforth Station, and family fun awaits at Morecambe’s Happy Mount Park, Lancaster’s Williamson Park, and Greenlands Farm.
Get ready to plan unforgettable days out during your stay with us.
Nature
Our log cabins are part of a rural haven that boasts abundant wildlife, a beautiful lake, natural grounds and regular wins at the David Bellamy Conservation Awards.
We are also surrounded by some of the best natural landscapes in the UK. Nature lovers will appreciate the well-maintained reserves and sites of special interest, which are home to rare species. Guests are also sure to spot some local celebrities – the Lake District Herdwicks, red squirrels and ospreys.
We highly recommend Leighton Moss nature reserve, which boasts the largest reed bed in north-west England and is home to a wide range of spectacular wildlife including otters, bearded tits, marsh harriers, egrets and red deer.
Fishing
Even on a first-time fishing experience, guests are sure to make a catch from our well-stocked lake. And for the more experienced fisherman there’s nearby Borwick Waters and Tewitfield Fly Fishing and Trout Fishery, where you can catch a wide variety of fish.
Three of our lodges offer private fishing jetties: Twitchers, Tranquility and Serenity (which also has its own boat). And all other lodge guests are welcome to bring their own non-motorised sailing craft to fish from or to choose a quiet spot on the Lake and enjoy a spot of fishing. The main lake is stocked with coarse fish – pike, carp, perch, tench and bream.
